Organizational Status: 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Land Trust established in 1996. Mission: The Sierra Foothill Conservancy, a local land trust, conserves open space between Yosemite and Kings Canyon to protect wildlife, ranching and natural beauty for present and future generations.
Preserve Ownership: McKenzie Table Mountain Preserve (2960 acres) Mary Elizabeth Miller Preserve at Black Mountain (992 acres) Tivy Mountain Preserve (825 acres) Conservation Easements: 11,260 acres. Transfer to Public Agency: 1,740 acres Major Species/Habitat Protection: Carpenteria; Keck’s Checkerbloom; Orange lupine; Golden Eagle; bobcat, gray fox; blue oak woodland; vernal pools; native bunch grasses. Membership: Over 1,200 members Preserve Visitors: Over 2,000 visitors in the past year for classes, hikes, research and school field trips. Area of Operations: Western foothills of the Sierra Nevada in Fresno, Madera and Mariposa Counties. Annual Operating Budget: Approximately $330,000 Funding Sources: SFC benefits from a variety of funding sources. Much of our operational budget comes from individual member contributions. These individual contributions are essential in helping to pay for resources necessary to facilitate land protection agreements and secure large funding for land and easement purchases. SFC has also received recent grant funding from non-governmental organizations such as Resource Legacy Fund Foundation, Trust for Public Land, Sierra Nevada Alliance, and The Bertha and John Garabedian Charitable Foundation.
