Saving Natural Lands, Now and Forever

Thumbs up, thumbs down

Thumbs up to Ben Ewell Jr. and the Sierra Foothill Conservancy, along with officials from the Trust for Public Land and the California Department of Fish & Game, for working together to acquire 719 acres of Madera County for the public benefit. The site, just north of Millerton Lake, was named the Austin and Mary Ewell Memorial Preserve. Ben Ewell Jr. made a substantial contribution to make the acquisition possible. The preserve was given in memory of his parents. The conservancy will oversee the wilderness area, which is home to the threatened elderberry beetle.
